Bones is situated in the lonely evening hours of a breakup. Here we follow inner thoughts, which are questioning the whole relationship. The evening hours are getting longer and regretful as the protagonist suddenly realizes how much this person meant to them, and now battles themselves in a mixed state of anger and regret. The anger is strongest in the second verse of the song, but the anger is only there because of the love that was once, or maybe still, shared. In the bridge it becomes clear to the listener that the protagonist is dealing with the heartbreak, by trying to place fault. But maybe, just maybe, sometimes people just grow in different directions, and that’s okay.
